An aging battery no longer provides great performance in EDF's, but still can handle prop aircraft well. I ended up giving them away to those who fly prop planes that require 4s batteries. I lost count how many cycles I had on them, as I flown multiple aircraft that required 4s batteries using them. Those batteries were very effective up until about a year ago. At that time purchased 12 4s 5000 70c batteries for my little Habu 2. I first started flying EDF aircraft back in 2014. They're out of stock at the moment however. Thunder Power has an 8s 5000mah 70c battery. Can't remember the brand but will check on it. GO FOR IT!!!Īlso there is an actual 8s battery offered now. Each to their own of course but that is my 2¢ on the matter.

I always pair my series packs so that they will both be the exact same age no matter what. You get all the HV stuff for just a little bit more.Īlso I always recommend using batteries that are the same age and IR when using them for series duty. The 8s is actually a better value when you look at the difference in price. If you are thinking about getting the 8s over the 6s.

Does anyone know of a better match for my SMC battery, or will the 5000 2s be close enough to work?Īny other suggestions for modifications, or doing something different from what the manual calls for would be appreciated. I plan on using my SMC 5300-40c (680gr.) batteries, but the closest 2s battery I can find to couple with that is the Admiral 5000-50c (276gr.).

I was going to get the 8s PNP, unless it's better to go ARF and put in a better motor/fan/ESC? I like aerobatics, usually am flying with mixed throttle (not full throttle all the time) and am looking for an efficient, quality set up. My only EDF experience is with the FW Avanti and the Mig-29 which I'm very happy with both. I'm just about to pull the trigger on the F-22 8s, but have a couple of questions. Thanks for your insight and I will keep your offer in mind. I have about a dozen Hobby Star 5200 45C 2S pack in great condition I'd be interested in selling. Decent 2S packs are hard to find, at least as soft packs and not RC car packs. I have since switched to Power Hobby and they do not have a 2S so I'm using a Coddar 5200 60C I get from Banggood. Seems the 2S didn't change as they still perform great. They change something with the 6S and they don't perform as well as the earlier ones I got. I used to used Hobby Star 5200 50 C as they had both 6 and 2 and I used a lot of their 6S, I had 15 at one time. When combining a 2 with a 6 I like to have the exact same in performance or a bit better for the 2S. The SMC are probably more like a 50-60C in another brand. Buy the PNP and then sell the fan, motor, and ESC if you want to upgrade. I would never buy a kit+ as there's no value in that. I can't answer the 6 or 8 question for you but I tried 6,8,10 and 12 in mine and settled on a Jetfan/ HET 8S set up.

It's also fairly light weight and a bit draggy.
